Smooth, elegant, fresh and vibrant, this wine over-delivers. -Randall Watkins, Winemaker The cool, mild summer of 2009 led to slow, even ripening and great flavor development. It was an incredible vintage for wineries that harvested in September and the first half of October, and another vintage entirely for those who waited until late October. Beginning in mid-October, rain episodes and humidity resulted in challenges and potential for rot. Fortunately, at Laurel Glen Vineyard, most of the Cabernet Sauvignon was picked at the beginning of October before any rain. Laurel Glen Vineyard, a thousand feet up the slopes of Sonoma Mountain, has long been considered one of the iconic Cabernet vineyards of California. Originally planted in the 1880’s, the present-day vineyard was developed in the 1970’s by Sonoma wine pioneer Patrick Campbell. The vineyard’s combination of high altitude, eastern exposure, rocky soils, and small diurnal temperature swings combine to produce very distinctive wines.
