Description
Haag wines are characterized by their fresh aromatics, dense fruit, spice and soft texture. The primary vineyard sites are located in the Brauneberger-Juffer and Juffer-Sonnenuhr with most of these vineyards being comprised of gray slate. The soil conditions and microclimate provide an excellent growing environment for Riesling due to the cool nights and warm days. The Haag estate has been in the same family for over 400 years. The original winery, a timber framed house built in the 15th century, still stands on the property near the modern winery. Marcus Haag is currently the winemaker and his mother focuses on marketing. The tradition in the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer has always dictated that both property and knowledge pass from father to son; in addition to what he learned from his father Willi, Marcus also received his degree in winemaking from the university in Geisenheim.
