Description

Clos la Coutale wine is produced from Malbec and Merlot grapes. The yield is on average 45hl/ha which enables good maturation and regular quality over the years. Vinification is carried out in thermo-controlled vats, and regular “pigeages” (breaking-up of the layer formed on top of the juice) both ensure maximum extraction of the “bouquet” and the fruit. Clos la Coutale is then elaborated in oak barrels to obtain a full balance between the tannins and the fruit. The wine has an inky black colour with a nose full of black fruits. On the palate the fruit comes through with a fresh vanilla finish and nicely rounded tannins. Malbecs of Argentina are the hottest selling reds in today’s wine world, but they owe their style of rich fruit, nice earth hints and dark color to France’s Cahors area. This western region, just south of Bordeaux, represents the first appellation to feature malbec as a varietal, though in these parts, as in all Old World viticultural areas, wine names are usually not grape types, but regions.
